Original 1971 U.S. pressing of The Cry of Love by Jimi Hendrix. Reprise Records MS 2034. Gatefold cover with iconic sketch art front and full-color photos inside. Mastered by Robert Ludwig (RL) at Sterling Sound.

This is the first posthumous Hendrix studio album, built from near-finished tracks he was working on in 1970. It opens with “Freedom” and closes with “Belly Button Window”—bookending a raw, soulful, sometimes haunting snapshot of a creative mind still flying at full altitude. Produced by Eddie Kramer and Mitch Mitchell from Jimi’s own notes, it captures his blend of blistering guitar work and spiritual searching with immediacy and force.
The RL Sterling cut is what you want—Ludwig’s mastering adds space and snap to the groove. Tracks like “Drifting” and “Night Bird Flying” just breathe differently here. This pressing has the full Sterling/RL/31184-1A dead wax markings and a clean vintage gloss that still shines.
