~ "The Complete February 1957 Jimmy Smith Blue Note Sessions" is an incredible snapshot of three
days in the life of Jimmy Smith: 11, 12, and 13 February 1957. In those three days, Jimmy and
his colleagues recorded enough excellent music to provide Blue Note with five albums:
"A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume 1 [BLP 1547]",
"A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume 2 [BLP 1548]",
"Jimmy Smith at the Organ Volume 1 [BLP 1551]",
"Jimmy Smith at the Organ Volume 2 [BLP 1552]", and
"The Sounds of Jimmy Smith [BLP 1556]".
All of that material on those albums plus several previously unreleased tracks are
included on five full LPs in this limited edition, and out of print Mosaic box set.
~ For the three-day marathon recording session, Jimmy is joined by his working group of
guitar + drummer plus several guest. Musicians include; 
~ Jimmy Smith (org), Donald Byrd (trmpt), Lou Donaldson (as), Hank Mobley (ts),
Eddie McFadden (g), Art Blakey (d), Donald Bailey (d), and Kenny Burrell (g). 
~ The music in this collection serves as a bridge between the hard bop of Jimmy's earlier recordings
and the soul jazz of the classic recordings he made for Blue Note in the early 1960's. Perhaps the most
 unique feature of the music in this box set is the solo tracks by Jimmy, which are experimental and
eclectic in that they contain snatches of classical music. These two tracks are unlike anything you will
 hear elsewhere in the Jimmy Smith catalog. The duets with Art Blakey and with Lou Donaldson are also unique treasures.
~ Like all Mosaic box sets, this one is a model for box set packaging.
The five LPs are packaged in a 12x12 box with a stunning Francis Wolff photograph of Jimmy in
concert on the front. The box contains extensively researched and well-written notes by Bob Blumenthal
 in a beautiful 14 page booklet supplemented with the excellent photography of Francis Wolff. In addition to
putting these recordings in proper historic perspective, the author includes session-by-session details
and track-by-track analysis of the music along with complete details regarding recording date and personnel.
This Mosaic set was limited to 5000 copies, which sold out quickly. Like many Mosaic sets, this one now
sells for many times it's original price because jazz collectors place such a high value of
Mosaic box sets for their packaging and excellent sound quality.

The box has some very minor shelf rubbing, but is fully intact, and nice. NM
Other than some light spindle marks, the vinyl looks unplayed. NM!
The hand numbered set is in the mid 2000s. Booklet is NM. Beautiful!!  USPS shipping prices have GONE UP! Especially overseas.

We package our LPs in a thick cardboard LP mailer. We ALWAYS take the LP out of the jacket to 
avoid any seam splitting that could occur in shipment. We put the LP and the jacket in an LP plastic sleeve. 
We float the LP between cardboard and 2 sheets of bubble wrap. We use shipping tape on all 
spines to protect the integrity of the box, and to insure the safety of the contents. 
All this is included in the low shipping price. We will clean your purchase on our 
VPI machine if and when necessary. This insures that you receive your item in the best possible condition.

 LP Box Set SHIPPING
We use the US Postal Service’s Media Mail for shipping in the U.S.
The buyer pays a shipping, packing (see above) and handling fee of $4.00 for the first
12"or LP and 50c for each additional item in the same package. This package is
a 5 LP set, so the cost for shipping in the US is $6.00
This includes USPS delivery confirmation (US only), box & packing material.

 Shipping to other countries is by the United States Postal Service's First Class Mail International. 
The rates for overseas is $18.00 for the first item, with an added $4.00 for each additional album, so 
this set will be $34 to ship. We will refund any significant difference in any real cost. 

Shipping to Canada is $14.00 for the first item, with an added $2.50 for each additional album,
which makes this set $24.00 to Canada. We will refund any significant difference in any real cost.
