Up for sale is an incredibly rare single (7 inch, 45 rpm vinyl) featuring two great songs written by Louisiana composers and performed by a New Orleans R&B/soul group. The vocalist - Joe Parker - is terrific.

The song on the "A" side, Buy Me A Rainbow, was written by Skip Easterling, a long time fixture on the New Orleans soul-funk scene. Easterling is best remembered as the vocalist on a remake of Muddy Waters' classic I'm Your Hootchie Kootchie Man. That recording was incredibly popular on African-American radio stations throughout the southern US. Easterling, who was white, was invited to perform at many Black clubs from Texas to Florida. I don't know if he ever recorded Buy Me A Rainbow, but the song was also performed by Art Neville and released on the "B" side of an Instant Records single in 1966.
The song on the "B" side, Not To Long Ago (sic), is a cover of the 1965 hit Not Too Long Ago, written by Joe Stampley and Merle Kilgore, out of Shreveport, Louisiana (and vicinity), and originally sung by Stampley and Kilgore's band, The Uniques, on the Paula Records label.
According to the searchable database of the Louisiana Secretary of State's office, the corporation known as Tasco Recording Co., Inc. filed its initial paperwork on June 12, 1967. It was located at 4417 Bienville Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119. The registered agents were Leonard Samuel and Henry G. Schroeder. The corporation became inactive and its registration was officially revoked in 1985.
