Here’s something very nice, the original 1965 UK pressing of a true jazz classic. I’m sure you all know the music (and if you don’t then you should so buy this one!) so we’ll move straight on to the condition.
Condition:
Sleeve: Pretty good. It’s a typical mid 60’s Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve made of thickish card laminated on the front only and bearing the “Patents Pending†legend on the rear. The front is in fine shape, no writing, no tears and only 3 or 4 small crows feet type creases coming in from the spine. There’s the usual line down the open edge where the lamination has shrunk over the years but that aside the front is as good as you’ll see showing that iconic photo to great effect. The unlaminated rear is also in good shape although it has yellowed slightly with age, there is the odd dirty mark but generally speaking for a 41 year old unlaminated white sleeve it’s pretty clean , there’s no tears or creases anywhere but someone has written 12/6 in blue ink in the top right corner, this was presumably the original price back in the days when we had proper money in this country, there is also the usual line along the flaps where the lamination has shrunk over the years, this could possibly be cleaned up a bit but really there’s nothing can be done about it. The corners show slight amounts of wear but nothing really serious. Both top and bottom seams are totally unworn. The spine has a couple of small light creases but is good and thick with all of the writing clearly readable.
Both labels are perfect, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers and very little visible spindle wear. The label on side one has the tax code K T stamped onto it and in the run off grooves the stamper numbers are A77 A1G and A77 B1G which I guess signifies a very first pressing of this classic LP.
Record: Very very strong. It’s very clean and still has that nice dark shine that only rarely played records have. When held under a harsh lamp there are only some light hairline marks visible, these are caused by the record being put in and out of it’s sleeve and are totally inaudible. It plays superbly too which you need with this one as there are some very quiet almost silent passages but there are no problems here, it’s totally silent both between tracks and during the quiet passages and has a nice clear sound right across the full dynamic range when required. I’ve just played this at high volume and really can’t think of any defects you need to know about, I can’t recall any surface noise or distortion at all, it really does just sound great and I can’t imagine you’re going to find a better copy easily.
