Description
John Lee Hooker was a giant of the blues and had one of its most distinctive voices. It was deep, hypnotic, growly at times....His influence was enormous; innumerable rock legends have professed their admiration for him and some got lucky enough to jam with him.
'It Serve You Right To Suffer' was initially released by Impulse Records in 1966 (A - 9103) and was the only record Hooker released on that label (I think?) These 8 songs he recorded were equal parts new and revisions from his past. "Shake It Baby" is quintesential Hooker....an insistent one-chord boogie incantation. "Country Boy" and "Bottle Up & Go" are among the other highlights from these amazing recordings which show his utter mastery of Delta and Down Home Blues.
This listing is for the audiophile reissue in 2010 by Universal Special Markets and Analogue Productions. No expense was spaired in the deluxe packaging and pressing while using the original Stereo masters for the procedure. Only a few thousand were pressed and numbered (this one being #801) and the sound is PHENOMENAL! At 45rpm, all the detail and nuance on the master tape were transfered flawlessly and I can tell you (from having once owned a first pressing of this album) that this reissue is INCREDIBLE. Out of Print.
