Leader, Hodges, alto sax on all 7 tracks. 3 tracks from 1956 also include Ray Nance, trumpet; Lawrence Brown, trombone; Jimmy Hamilton, clarinet, tenor sax; Harry Carney, baritone sax; Billy Strayhorn, piano; Jimmy Woode, bass; Sam Woodyard, drums. 4 tracks, also from 1956, also include Clark Terry, Cat Anderson, Willie Cook, Nance, trumpets; Quentin Jackson, Russell Procope, alto sax; Paul Gonsalvers, tenor sax; Carney, baritone sax; Strayhorn, piano; Woode, bass; Woodyard, drums. A brilliant showcase for Hodges in the Ellington/Strayhorn framework.
Cover: Good 3" split on the top and bottom edges. The entire spine has split. Radio call letters appear on the upper margin of the back cover. A record ring and light aging on the back cover.
Record: Mint Visually shows no wear. There are a few very light brush-like surface rub marks on a small part of Side A. These do not affect the sound. No surface noise. Audibly checked.
