Rare original 1968 first pressing of Johnny Ventura Y Su Combo – El Mamito on Kubaney (SMT 362). This edition is notable for not mentioning “con el Hit !! La Muerte de Martin” on the cover, confirming its early pressing status. Released as part of Kubaney’s 13th Anniversary series.

One of Ventura’s most exciting late-60s projects, the album blends salsa dura, boogaloo, bossa nova, soul, and merengue, showcasing his versatility as a Dominican bandleader during the golden age of Latin dance music. Vocals are shared by Johnny Ventura and Luis Sanches.

Standout cuts include the fiery opener El Mamito (by Tite Curet Alonso), the dancefloor burner Ritmo Merembe, the soulful Guajira Con Soul, and Saludo A Panamá, Ventura’s own tribute to Latin unity. A key example of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican influences colliding in New York’s Latin scene.
