This is a very nice copy of one of the rarest of all Joy Division collectables. It is not a bootleg copy; it's the original 1978 issue, given to me by a member of Rob Gretton's family. The seven inch label is bordered with a serrated edge. The sleeve is a 14" x 14" fold-out. (See picture)
CONDITION:
This seven has been carefully looked after by the Gretton family for years. The fold-out sleeve is in immaculate condition with no fading or age spotting. There is no discoloration on the folds. It comes in its original poly outer sleeve.
The record itself is in excellent condition. Under harsh light, one or two very light surface marks are visible. There is some spindle marking on the label, indicating that the record has been played a number of times. The tracks play through perfectly, barring some very light crackle here and there.
On Side 2, there is a piece of black tape covering the word 'Enigma'. After releasing this seven inch, it emerged that there was another record label called 'Enigma'. It is thought that this tape is an attempt by the band to cover the label name then they could shift the last few copies of the single with impunity. When 'An Ideal For Living' was put out as a twelve inch, the band changed the name of their label to 'Anonymous'. There is a touch of bubbling in the same place on the Side 1, where the tape has been removed. (See picture)
