Headed by the release of Thin Lizzy’s Live and Dangerous, there was no shortage of rock solid live recordings from 1978. The likes of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Blue Öyster Cult, Jethro Tull, Ted Nugent, Outlaws and Scorpions delivered concert albums back in ’78, as did the progressive leaning Kansas.

Issued by Kirshner Records in October of 1978, Kansas’ Two for the Show double-LP effort was recorded during the group’s extensive tours throughout ’77 and ’78, while out on the road promoting the group’s break-through Leftoverture LP, and the ambitious follow-up Point of Know Return. Both studio albums sold four-million copies, and each produced a top ten single.

On the strength of Leftoverture and Point of Know Return, Kansas went from a regional draw in fly-over-country, to international success. Those in the know were already clued into Kansas’ first three albums (the self-titled 1974 debut LP, and the pairing of Song for America and the prog masterpiece Masque from '75), but on each coast Kansas went unnoticed.

It was the popularity of “Carry on Wayward Son” in early ’77, chased by the mellow “Dust in Wind”, that pushed Kansas into headlining arenas across North America. "What's on My Mind" should have been a monster single, as well, but that is a story for another day.

Opening with the proud “Song for America”, which cuts a seven-minute groove into side one of Two for the Show, Kansas are tight and in control throughout the Platinum certified recording. The six-man band cover ground from their to-date five studio albums on Two for the Show, which produced one single via “Lonely Wind”. Featured on side three, “Lonely Wind” is accented by Kerry Livgren’s piano solo. The single for “Lonely Wind” was marketed in ’79, with the track edited to under three-minutes.

The inspired Two for the Show places a spotlight on "Icarus / Borne on the Wings of Steel", “Point of Know Return”, “Portrait (He Knew)”, “Carry on Wayward Son” and the un-plugged “Dust in the Wind”. Self-produced, Kansas’ first concert recording peaks with side four, as the inspired pairing of “Closet Chronicles” and the lengthy “Magnum Opus” showcase the group’s presence from the big stage.

(b)         The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)          The records are  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
