Kevin Ayres  "whatevershebringswesing"  Harvest  SHVL 800 Stereo  1972   This is the rarest version of this album and possibly the rarest Harvest album ever issued. This is a 1972 UK original first Harvest pressing with no EMI logo on the labels. Kevin Ayers third solo album sold in small quantity in the UK first issue format on first release and relatively few early originals have survived.   This particular example is the rarest because, by mid-1971, all UK Harvest record labels were supposed to be carrying the EMI boxed label.For example there are are no known UK variants of Pink Floyd's "Meddle" (catalogue #SHVL 795, released in October 1971), which do not have the EMI boxed logo. There should have been no way that this album, released two months later, could carry non-EMI logo'd labels. However, it appears that a few slipped through unnoticed from the very first print run and ended up in circulation before the printing plate was corrected. It is likely that this was a very small number, possibly as few as 100 copies, a substantial proportion of which, it would be fair to assume have failed to survive the intervening years.    The album was pressed from the first masters as indicated by matched early stampers "T" AND "T" which confirms that it was within the first run. The labels also have the earlier "Gramophone Co" text around the top, which was changed to "EMI" text on later pressings. Another further indicator of this being one of the earliest UK originals is the first release dated 7201 (January 1972)  Garrod & Lofthouse Fully Textured Gatefold. First issues were distributed with either fully textured gatefolds (outer surfaces and centre spread) - which is what this issue has-  or outer textured with smooth finish centre spreads; both are rare but there is no doubt that these fully textured variants are the rarest. Put all these factors together and you have one of the rarest and most sought-after albums in existence.
