KILBURN & THE HIGH ROADS - Handsome ORIG Dawn LP DNLS 3065 (UK, Stereo, 1975)

Happy to present the only original UK LP release from Ian Dury’s first band the prototype Blockheads sound of Kilburn & The High Roads. This is the authentic 1st UK press on Dawn from 1975 without the ‘featuring Ian Dury’ add on that was tagged to the Pye re-tread a few years later, once The Blockheads had made it. Matrices: A-2/B-2 with the ’OBEDIENT/PROUD’ inscriptions on the run-off.

The fully laminated single format sleeve was made by Garrod & Lofthouse and like the vinyl is in an absolutely splendid, rarely handled state. There is a light line crease to the rear right edge, a really small one to the front right corner and some tiny ‘thumb’ creases to the front. Other than these it is completely without creasing. The spine is superb with 100% definition, no splits and all text legible. The corners are without softening and maintain near to full definition. There is NO edge wear top or bottom. There is NO writing nor stickers nor residue. There is NO loss of colour and hardly any feathering to the opening edges. No tears nor scrapes. All in all a beautifully preserved sleeve for its 34 years. Looking near to new, this is strictly graded at EX+ (Excellent Plus).

The white Dawn labels are in fine nick with NO writing, stickers, mould, dirt or tears. What looks like 2 spindle trails to one side and only the one to the other. Lovely!

The medium weight vinyl is just that - a mid 70’s solid disc totally unlike the flimsy wobbly lightweights that became commonplace later in the decade and into the 80’s. It’s also in virtually unmarked, gleaming EX+ (Excellent Plus) condition. And only EX+ not Mint- because there is a little pressing bubble to one track on the A side. This is from manufacture and is visible but doesn’t sound on playback. Other than that and one or two near invisible tiny sleeve traces, this looks completely unmarked and maybe only played once or max twice. NO scratches, scuffs, hairlines, dust pockets or embedded dirt. A real pleasure to have and hold and surely one of the best left around. IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays just as such a pristine disc should. Little surface or background at all with NO snap, crackle or pops. NO ticks, clicks, hiss nor distortion or loss of clarity. This LP has an amazingly good production from Hugh Murphy and throughout it sounds superb with completely unhindered audio. NO nasties at all!!

The Pye reissue shows up regularly as it was issued at the height of the Blockheads fame but this first Dawn press basically sold zilch nearly 3 years before ’What A Waste’ got Dury national recognition. It’s here in fabulous condition with no reserve.
