"IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING" An Observation by KING CRIMSON. U.K. 1969 ORIGINAL STEREO PINK ISLAND LABEL ALBUM (Cat.No.ILPS-9111)
This geniune collector's item is in "EX" condition.I have play-graded as well as visually graded the vinyl.The vinyl surface still has it's natural, gloosy sheen. Only under intense spotlighting can you see any of the few very minor scuffs on the otherwise fine looking surface. This is a lovely piece of prime-cut UK vinyl. Both the bright pink Island iabels are clean and undamaged with just one or two minimal spindle marks to show that this fine and highly prized record has been played.
The truely ground-breaking and dynamic gate-fold sleeve is in "EX-plus" condition.There is no creasing.No wear or tear on the front and back of the BARRY GODBER painted picture.No marking or damage at all, except at the spine itself, which has some slight fading of the pink.Otherwise it's still in it's full, bright and arresting colour.(See pictures.) The inside lists all the track details and features another Godber painting.There is one long crease on the right of the spine, which looks like it's been there from new.The lyrics are printed out as well as the personnel, which on this KING CRIMSON's debut, is:ROBERT FRIPP(guitar); IAN McDONALD(reeds, woodwind, vibes, keyboards, etc.); GREG LAKE(bass guitar, lead vocals);MICHAEL GILES(drums, etc.) and PETE SINFIELD (words & "illumination").
This album brought jazz, folk and classical influences into a rock framework.Widely acclaimed at the time, it really did personify the whole progressive movement in serious rock music. It's extremes of scary, heavy rock contrasted dynamically with gentler, almost impossibly quiet sections, while the drama was heightened by dark swaths of mellotron. It really is one of the key moments in rock music. Every serious collector of progressive rock should have one.
