Original RCA Record Club Edition factory sealed copy of KISS’ 5th studio album released by Casablanca Records on November 11, 1976. The cover design of this album was created by Michael Doret, the Los Angeles based designer, but the cover of this issue became exclusive not due to him. The misprint that occurred during the printing of the cover led to two pieces of blue ink in the shape of a tear getting onto the spot below the left eye of Paul Stanley’s Starchild. The cover with this misprint got its own special name “The Blue Tear Cover”. Whether it’s a postal stamp without a perforation, a coin with an unclear imprint, or a piece of ink getting onto an unexpected spot, it all leads to the item containing a factory defect becoming highly collectible and sought after. The cover of the “Rock And Roll Over” album RCA Club Issue isn’t the only example of the problem that occurred during the printing process. Only two years after the release of this pressing, a similar issue would occur with the “Dynasty” album. When printing the cover, a part of Paul Stanley’s and Gene Simmon’s straight jackets wasn’t blacked out. Only 100 of these “Straight Jacket” covers were ever printed and you can find one of them currently listed at our auction. Going back to the copy of "Rock And Roll Over" album, it’s worth noting that it’s in impeccable vintage Mint condition and should contain inside a custom inner sleeve having the same design on both sides and a large 8.5" x 8.25" sticker featuring the album cover artwork. The labels of this issue represent the 3rd variation which was being used from 1975 to 1977. They still have the 'Manufactured and Distributed by Casablanca Records, Inc.' credit but the design has changed to the familiar Oasis scene with a fortress, camels and palm trees.
