PETR KOTIK: MANY MANY WOMEN (LABOR LAB-6/10 – USA 1981) 5LP BOX ****** The vocal and instrumental S.E.M. Ensemble – maybe the only one to perform music by Marcel Duchamp among others – lead by Petr Kotik perform the conductor’s long piece made in collaboration with Gertrud Stein. This magnus opus spans on the ten sides of the album and “the sounding result of this construction may be received as a kind of spiritual experience; an acoustic rite of sorts, as the music moves on spider legs through the space-time continuum. The combination of these intricate, absentminded, verbal incantations of Gertrude Stein with the translucent instrumentation of Petr Kotik in the trance-like performance by The S.E.M. Ensemble is hypnotic, levelling the listener out in a weightless soaring of perception.” The five LP’s are contained in a box which also includes an LP-size insert that folds out into a 22” x 33” poster with notes and photographs overleaf. An impressive and intriguing listening experience for people into John Cage, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Tom Johnson, Robert Ashley, Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, Fredric Rzewski, Charlemagne Palestine, etc.. ****** Record, box and insert are in near mint condition. ****** Please see my other auctions for more avant garde / experimental / electronic music records and books. ****** Sorry, postage rates have gone up: handling and registered airmail postage is about 12 euros for Europe (although cheaper options are available) and 15 euros elsewhere. Payments accepted are paypal, cash and I.M.O.. ****** Thank you.
