KYA Radio often recorded interviews with music artists and had them pressed into records, which were awarded as promotional prizes. This interview with John Lennon was recorded Saturday, May 29, 1969 in the midst of his second “Bed-In For Peace” with Yoko Ono, this time from room 1742 of the Hotel Reine Elizabeth in Montreal, Quebec. At the time, John was restricted from entering the United States.
Disc jockeys Tom Campbell and Bill Holley conducted the interview by phone from their studio in San Francisco while it was broadcast live on KYA Radio. It was later released as “The KYA 1969 Peace Talk" on a limited-edition 45 RPM double-sided record.
This particular copy belonged to a family member who lived in the San Francisco area and won it as a prize. It is still in the original KYA Radio prize mailer, postmarked July 7, 1969.
The record was only played a few times and then stored until now. It is in mint condition and is obviously an original and not a low-quality bootleg, given the personal history and my connection to it. The closeup photos of the record's runout markings further verify the authenticity.
Photos are of the actual record and package being offered. The mailing address is blurred out in the photos for privacy but is intact on the actual mailer you will receive.
