Description
Kenny Burrell Blue Lights Blue Note 1596 / 1597 (original pressing)
* N.B.: THIS IS A HYBRID ITEM. I'm selling the album cover of BN 1596 with the LP of BN 1597.
I'm not sure how I wound up with the LP of one inside the cover of the other. The cover artwork of 1596 and 1597 is the same, however, except the former is blue and the latter is pink.
The art is the same; it's the work of Andy Warhol.
These original, first-pressing Kenny Burrell Blue Notes are prized among collectors more for their cover art than for their music.
But the music is fine, modern-combo stuff. Among Burrell's first dates as a leader, it wisely featured trumpeter Louis Smith, whose soloing stands out, marking him as a potential standard-bearer for Clifford Brown, who had died two years earlier. This turned out, though, to be one of only a small number of record sessions that Smith did in the era.
The LP label, and machine markings on the inside band, indicate that this is a first pressing: "Blue Note Records" has the West 63d street address and no registered-trademark symbol printed on the former, and "RVG" is stamped on the latter. Side one shows minor spindle wear but is otherwise in good condition. Side two shows no spindle wear and is in very good condition. The LP needs a cleaning, is all. (I have a professional, vacuum LP cleaner, but I don't assume that a buyer wants it done for him.)
I'm an independent seller, divesting his personal collection. This original Blue Note was cited at discogs as being one of the most expensive items of the month in august 2016. My price is much, much lower than copies went for at that site.
Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination and shipping method he chooses; I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)
Insurance is mandatory.
Please wait till I inform you of cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.
**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express has tracking. If you want a different shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction.
Packing: The LP will be carefully wrapped, then placed in a standard, cardboard LP box. Please indicate any special instructions.
Payment: I accept Paypal. I also accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.
Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.
