Original authentic very early 1st pressing factory sealed copy of King Crimson’s debut album “In the Court of the Crimson King (An Observation by King Crimson)” released on the Atlantic Records label on October 10, 1969. I have no doubts that this is a very early pressing of late 60s / early 70s containing not only the four-digit SD-8245 catalog number but also the “1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.” address in the rim text on the labels. Another guarantee of this copy being a very early 1st pressing would be a clear 5 ¼” x 1” hype sticker indicating not only the band’s name but also the 1st four-digit catalog number SD-8245, “Stereo” format and the Atlantic Records logo fan. Coming with only very early 1st pressing copies this clear sticker is affixed directly to the cover of this copy underneath the shrink wrap. Iconic design cover depicting a schizoid man drawn by Barry Godber, a computer programmer friend of Sinfield, who used his own face viewed through a mirror as the model. When printing the cover, Atlantic Records used the same raw matte textured cardboard seen on the 1st pressing of Led Zeppelin II, which was released in the same year. This circumstance can also be used when identifying the copy as a very early 1st pressing as the covers of subsequent pressings were printed on glossy paper. The copy’s sturdy spine contains the full title of the album “In the Court of the Crimson King (An Observation by King Crimson) indicating the 1st pressing four-digit “Atlantic SD 8245” catalog number. The cover is in superb Mint condition with the bright perfectly preserved colors of the vivid drawing. The shrink wrap containing two breathe holes on the front cover is fully intact and doesn’t have any tears, missing pieces or splits, only having some very light age shelf wear. It’s impossible to find a similar copy nowadays. It’s a very big luck that we’ve been able to acquire this copy from a collector as in most cases, the owners part ways with it with great reluctance. It’s fully justified because nobody knows how many similar sealed copies of this album have been preserved.
