Brahms - A German Requiem 

(Columbia SAXS 2430 & SAX 2431 UK 2 x LP 1962)

 

This is the complete choral symphony issued as two separate Stereo LP's (Part 1 & Part 2) in the UK in 1962. These were designed to be purchased together though. LP 1 is one sided only. Both LP's have "blue & silver" Columbia labels. These are the earliest UK pressings. The records are in excellent condition. These are quite rare. Don't miss out!


1. Record 1 (Columbia SAXS 2430 UK LP 1962) UK original Stereo pressing. It has a front laminated flipback sleeve which has a large "Stereo" on the front. It comes with its original polythene-lined "EMI" company inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has turquoise blue & silver "Columbia" labels. It has a 1st press YAX 757-2 matrix number. Please note that this LP (LP 1) is one sided only. It has the Columbia "Magic Notes" logo impressed in the vinyl on Side 2.

Sleeve: Very nice! There is some light to mild rubbing wear at the sleeve opening & corner tips. There is some very light fading to the rear. VG+ condition.

Vinyl: Very nice indeed! Just some very light sleeve rubs can be seen under a strong light. The polythene inner sleeve has left some very minor marks on Side 1 in a small area too. EX condition. I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays near excellent to excellent overall. There is some light or very light crackle in a few of the quieter places. The labels are in excellent+ condition and show next to no spindle wear. The company inner sleeve is in VG++ condition. There is some light to mild ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.

2. Record 2 (Columbia SAX 2431 UK LP 1962) UK original Stereo pressing. It has a front laminated flipback sleeve which has a large "Stereo" on the front. It comes with its original polythene-lined "EMI" company inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has turquoise blue & silver "Columbia" labels. It has 1st press YAX 758-3 and YAX 759-2 matrix numbers. Both sides of this LP contain music.

Sleeve: There is a mild crease to the laminate that runs along the majority of the front. There is some moderate rubbing wear to the bottom corner at the sleeve opening. There is some light to mild rubbing wear to the other three corner tips, & bottom edge also. There is some light to mild rubbing wear at the sleeve opening, & some minor foxing on the rear sleeve. VG condition.

Vinyl: Very nice indeed! Just some light or very light sleeve rubs can be seen under a strong light. EX condition. I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays near excellent to excellent overall. There is some light or very light crackle in some of the quieter places. The labels are in near perfect condition and show next to no spindle wear. The company inner sleeve is in Near Excellent condition. There is some light to mild ringwear & creasing. There is one small tear also. There are no seam splits.

    >>  Grading Information All grading is very strict & adheres to 'Record Collector' specifications. However, I have fine tuned them & they are explained below. All vinyl is examined closely under a strong light & play tested.

MINT Condition = As good as a copy you would buy from a shop, immaculate!

NEAR MINT Condition = Very nearly mint just slightly under, maybe a couple of very, very light paper sleeve scuffs that can only be seen under strong light. SOME WOULD CLASS THIS AS MINT. This disc has been played a couple of times at most. Cover is virtually perfect - very minimal wear only.

EX Condition = A clean & tidy copy that shows virtually no defects. Maybe one or two light needle scuffs or light sleeve removal marks that can only be seen under strong light. There will be no scratches. Play will be near perfect with no distortion. Cover will be very nice with maybe very minimal creasing, ringwear or edgewear.

NEAR EX Condition = You can tell this record has been played a few times but it has been well cared for. There will be minor surface marks only; that barely detract from the sound quality. Cover may have slight creasing or ringwear. A very serviceable copy that you will be pleased with.

VG Condition = A well played but serviceable copy. There will be a few marks on the vinyl, but they won't be nasty scratches, just relatively light needle scuffs and sleeve removal marks, they will be noticeable but won't detract from play too much. Cover will show signs of storage/ ageing, e.g., creasing, slight folding, spinewear, ringwear or sticker tears. The record will not be trashed!!

Please note that these prices are as a general guideline only. For example: Double LPs are classed as two LPs. Also posters, inserts, etc.. can increase postage costs. One parcel must not exceed 2kg (approximately 4-6 LPS).

All records will be sent in high quality vinyl mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7". I use a cruciform box for larger orders (4-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.

I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).

I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...
