Description: This is a perfect, unplayed copy of the first LP issued by the well-known father of all drone music, La Monte Young and his partner Marian Zazeela. This LP was issued in an edition of 2800 copies in 1969, of which this is copy number 1699.
Additional Info: Absolutely fantastic and legendary LP of Young/Zazeela that truly manages to live up to all the mythic hype that is sometimes invoked around this particular composer. Young's limited output over the years can make it tough to get a handle on his raison d'etre, but this fine LP stands as a testament to the guy's higher-minded approach to harmonics and constant sound. Side 1, which was recorded in 1969, features beautifully droning vocals by Marian and La Monte over a sine wave drone in the background that serves to anchor the piece. This may well be my favorite piece La Monte Young has ever done. Side 2 is a live recording from 1964 of bowed gongs played by Young and Zazeela. The sound is somewhat distant, yet constant... a sort of light atonal churning that has a fairly mechanical sound, as occasional pulses and waves slowly flow atop the din. Quite listenable and pretty relaxing, I might add. In addition to all the great sound contained within these grooves, Marian Zazeela's beautiful cover design and calligraphy on the back make this an absolutely essential purchase for any avant-garde enthusiast.
