I Can Hear Music b/w Goin Back-Larry Lurex (Anthem AN-204) Released in 1973. Produced by Robin Geoffrey Cable.
Originally recorded and written for Phil Spector's group The Ronettes in 1966, their version was actually the group's last Top 100 hit. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys had other ideas for the song, as the original version was unlike anything Spector had released on his Philles label (Jeff Barry actually produced the track). Wilson wanted to see how the track would sound with 'Wilson's' version of Spector's true 'Wall Of Sound', instead of the laid back production by Barry. The Beach Boy's version was a much bigger hit. In 1972, Robin Cable, who was trying out a new studio (Trident) wanted to record a single that would be as close to Spector's Wall Of Sound as possible, without the use of multiple musicians, but through reverb and multi-tracking. Enlisting the help of vocalist and lead singer of Queen Freddie Mercury, Robin commissioned Freddie for 2 tracks (the flip 'Going Back' did not use overdubbing as planned). At that time, Mercury was in the middle of recording tracks for Queen's debut album. This single, though did not hit the Top 100 Pop Chart, it did secure position #115 on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart.
In the 17 years + of selling on eBay, this is the third copy I have placed for sale, and each ranged from VG to Mint condition. Collectively, all had the same majestic playback, with no surface noise, no audible scratch noises. Pressed on syrene, this copy is no different. The playback is dynamic. It's powerful production on 45 as opposed to tinny computer playback will blow you away.
