Mega-Rare original 1973 uk EMI issue with push-out centre and ''1-U'' machine stamped on both sides of the run-offs. This 45 had virtually no radio air-play at all and so only ever sold just a few copies.  

During the Summer of 1972, QUEEN were found lurking in the corridors and reception area of Trident Studios, London, waiting for any available studio time so they could work on their debut album. Their studio deal with Trident had not yet been signed, and the likes of David Bowie and Elton John kept the studios extremely busy.

At the time, Trident staff engineer/producer Robin Cable was working on an old Beach Boys song called "I Can Hear Music". Cable had heard Freddie singing with Queen, he was aware that the band had plenty of free time in between recording sessions, so he asked Freddie if he'd sing the vocals for the track in question. At Freddie's insistence, fellow Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May were drafted in to add percussion and guitars and some backing vocals. Freddie also sang lead vocals on "Goin' Back" during the same recording session. Robin Cable loved the songs so much that he persuaded Trident to release them as a 45. However, it took almost a year for the disc to appear, and when it did, Queen's own first album was not too far away, so a different artists name had to be used, it was decided to use the spoof Glam Rock name of LARRY LUREX.

The single was released on June 29th 1973. The 45 got virtually no air-play at all so the record sold very few copies. At that time nobody could have imagined that the record was to become one of the rarest and most collectable Queen related items of all.

THIS COPY IS 100% ORIGINAL

Queen are one of the most collectable bands in the world, original uk issues of the EMI Larry Lurex 45 are now near impossible to find so the record has been bootlegged a few times over the years, but thankfully it's actually very easy to spot the fake 45 from the 1973 EMI original. The main difference is that the original EMI vinyl issue had the push-out centre, the booted version has a solid centre, this rare 45 was never actually originally released with a solid centre.

The other big difference is on the vinyl's run-off grooves, this copy i am selling has the codes 'EMI 2030 A1-U' & 'EMI 2030 B1-U' machine stamped in the run-offs, the bootleg does not, this copy also has 'KT' machine stamped on both sides and also 'PIRANH.BY RAY' hand etched in the run-off of side one, again the fake does not have these. 

This copy on offer here is a 100% genuine 1973 uk first pressing.

CONDITION

The vinyl is in good condition, there are numerous tiny hairlines, some light scuffing and some mild scratches, also right on the outermost edge on the run-in there is a very tiny hard to spot hairline crack, this does not actually extend to the record grooves and does no affect play at all, if i did not mention that it was there then most would not even notice it, you have to look pretty hard to see it but it is there. I try to be very honest in my descriptions as i know how disappointing it is to receive a record that is not as described. The labels are excellent with minimal wear and marking, the original EMI records paper sleeve is in very good condition.

This is not the best surviving copy of this mega-rare Queen related Larry Lurex 45, but it is guaranteed to be a 100% genuine uk first pressing.

AUDIO QUALITY

The A-side plays and sounds great with just some occasional light background crackle and a few tics, the B-side is a much quieter track and plays with quite a lot of crackle and pops for around two minutes, but after this the track plays much better, this 45 does not attempt to jump and plays through pretty well. I bought this 45 around 25 years ago, it has never been cleaned so a pro vacuum deep clean may clear away some of the crackles.
