LAURIE JOHNSON ORCHESTRA    A brass Band Swinging Vinyl LP  from 1961  on EMI COLUMBIA label  33 SX 1231  Green and Gold label MONO   UK pressing  from 1961 A Lansdowne  Jazz series recording  ( Engineered  by JOE MEEK)

  MATRIX XEX 1603 - 1N   XEX 182 -2N  Stampers 1-  G  (side 1) ( 1- G ( side 2)   Which are the earliest  Stamper numbers ( based on GRAMOPHLTD) for EMI (SO G = 1 , R =2 etc) - 

So this pressing is very early  with the theory being the earlier the pressing the better the sound quality !


 with E-T embossed tax code next to spindle hole 

complete with original  EMI Company Sleeve inner  

Sleeve and vinyl   In Great Shape  especially considering its 50 year plus vintage ! 

 

 

A pretty  rare album  from Soundtrack maestro Laurie Johnson  who went on to produce some much loved  themes to TV shows such as   the Avengers  Jason King The professionals etc engineered   by  Joe Meek -Quite an experimental  approach for its day  -12 tracks employing Jazz Musicians to replicate the sound of a traditional Brass band - So lots of UK jazzers involved - Kenny Baker, Don Lusher, Kenny Napper, Phil Seaman George Chisolm and quite a few others with a fair bit of  Jazzmen switching instruments - 

  Astonishing clarity in the recording  as you might expect form the remarkable genius of  Joe Meek  !   This Album has real audio punch !

SLEEVE  Excellent very faint signs of wear at edges  and faint evidence of a small sticker  top right front corner ( see photos) - laminated front  flip back rear sleeve - 

 

Label - Excellent -  I suspect this copy has very rarely been played ! 

VINYL  Just Under   Excellent  - Visually ( A very faint mark on Track two side 1 which was inaudible on my deck ( Goldring Lenco ) 

Audibly Excellent  Overall in great shape for its age
