LED ZEPPELIN
LED ZEPELIN II with Livin Lovin Wreck Misprint
LP
Atlantic (Red/Plum)
1969
588 198
This is one of the most sought-after Led Zeppelin rarities.
Extremely rare copy of the original VERY FIRST pressing of 'Led Zeppelin II', on the original red/plum Atlantic label, catalogue number 588 198, in the light brown gatefold sleeve made by E J Day, also with the 'The Lemon Song' credit and…
the “LIVIN' LOVIN' WRECK” TITLE MISPRINT.
This first pressing issued in October 1969 listed the track 'Livin' Lovin' Maid (She’s A Woman)' on the sleeve, but on the label for Side Two it was misprinted as 'LIVIN' LOVIN' WRECK (SHE’S A WOMAN)' (believed to be mistaken for the Jerry Lee Lewis number). This error was quickly spotted and was swiftly withdrawn and the correct title replaced. So, this is a copy of one of the first-ever released pressings of Led Zeppelin II in the UK.
Please bear this in mind if you are considering bidding:
The condition of the sleeve is pretty good – except for a prominent mark on the front cover (visible in the photograph), where someone has written what looks like a stylistic signature or a stylistic 30p. This may be removable, but I haven’t tried, to avoid damaging the cover. (NB. I hasten to add this is not what I have just paid for it – the mark has been there for as long as I remember.)
Please bear this in mind if you are considering bidding.
Apart from that, there are a few scuffs and some light ring wear visible on the back sleeve, some wear and fading from storage to the edges mainly on the bottom left hand corner, but there are no tears or splits. The spine shows a little wear, and the inside of the gatefold has a few agemarks on the right hand side. The record labels are in good condition, although there are several spindle marks to both labels, but the ‘Livin Lovin Wreck’ credit is clear.
The record itself has very little surface noise, even in the quiet bits, and any pops and crackles are few and far between. Yes, it’s obviously had some play, but overall it’s have been quite well looked after over the years.
Please bear this in mind if you are considering bidding:
BUT - there are two tiny jumps (at either end of the theremin section in ‘Whole Lotta Love’), but this may be my turntable arm which plays quite light. The rest of the album plays through fine.
Please bear this in mind if you are considering bidding.
I have added close-up photo of the label, to illustrate the all-important song credits.
