LED ZEPPELIN - LED ZEPPELIN IV 4 (or sometimes referred to as " ZOSO ")

Note that this is NOT the same copy that I posted and sold on ebay a coupe of weeks ago!

A solid very good condition and great sounding copy of this increasingly rare and highly sought after 1971 UK 1st press Led Zep rock masterpiece, with original A3, B4 vinyl matrix numbers on the coveted red & plum Atlantic record label, STEREO, 2401012

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1    2401012 A//3 with stampers "11 1" at 1 o'clock, and also etched "PECKO DUCK"

Side 2    2401012 B//4 with stampers "11 7" at 5 o'clock, and also etched "PORKY"

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and nicely weighted vinyl is very good plus (VG+). Each side gleams, with a lovely jet black sheen and in normal daylight comes across as at least excellent. With close scrutiny under a bright light some small and very wispy hairlines come into view along with a few small and very light scuff marks on each side of the vinyl - not obvious, even under a bright light, nothing feelable, nothing below the surface, and all trivial and superficial. The exception to this is a single 2cm very fine surface scratch perpendicular to most of track 1 on side 1 - it is just (and only just) feelable but thankfully does not seem to interfere with the audio quality at all...certainly I could detect no resultant clicking.

The labels are very god plus (VG+). Lovely condition labels with black text upon the smooth red/plum/white background and, of course, the iconic Atlantic logo, all in tip-top condition. The only blemishes are just a few small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label and the name "R Barr" written neatly and in small lettering on each label (see photos). Note the "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN", "Kinney Music Ltd.", "LED ZEPPELIN" printed in the plum coloured area, "MARKETED BY POLYDOR RECORDS LIMITED" 6 o'clock text on both labels, and "EXECUTIVE Producer: Peter Grant" texts - all indicative of a true UK 1st pressing.

The condition of the non-laminated outer sleeve is very good (VG). There are two small 1.5cm surface gashes towards the top left corner of the reverse side (see photo), some  light scuffing along most of the bottom and top edges and a few small, light scuff marks on the spine also, the name "R Barr" written neatly and in very small lettering towards the inside top right corner of the gatefold, and just a little general wear elsewhere. There is also just a single 2 cm light cardboard crease on the reverse side adjacent and perpendicular to the spine which does slightly weaken the spine at that point. However, all edges remain firm, there is no fraying or feathering on the opening edges, no tears or rips or seam splits, and the colours and art work remain in excellent condition with great definition still. In summary, some minor blemishes but still very presentable.

The quality of the audio is excellent (EX). Great tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No repeats, sticks or clicks and barely any crackle or interference - just the hint of some very mild background crackle during a couple of the quieter moments on side 2 but this is non-intrusive, trivial and I am sure that a proper clean would further reduce any background noise (probably down to dust in the grooves through decades of storage), which is very minimal anyway...negligible. Every track on this wonderful, timeless LP makes for great listening, and these 1st pressings have so much more power and "raunchiness" than later pressings/re-issues, which somehow seem diluted. Tremendous!

Comes with 1st press dark grey, dual foldback edged inner sleeve with lyrics to 'Stairway to Heaven' on one side and track titles and credits on the other : no creasing but there is a small 1cm tear on the top edge and a 10cm seam split in the middle of the bottom edge along with a horizontal strip of discoouration adjacent to each side of the bottom edge where once some sellotape was placed...still remaining fully functional nonetheless and with no other blemishes. Note that I always use a new, plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

In summary a solid very good (at least) condition and very presentable copy of this rare and sought after 1971 UK 1st press variant Led Zeppelin rock classic - the whole LP remains a tremendous listen....timeless, in fact. A "must" for any serious rock vinyl collection and will only continue to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
