Led Zeppelin IV A3/B4 UK Red/Plum Label
This red/plum pressing has very impressive audio with only one track showing some obvious interference here and there.
This A3/B4 matrix has all the correct label information...for a change! It only has the correct 'Jimmy Page' production credit, the correct 'Kinney/Superhype' credit and 'Hop' is also spelt correctly.
PECKO DUCK and PORKY are etched into the dead wax on each side.

The audio on S1 is Ex+ (Near Mint in some sections / track 3 ranges between VG and Ex+)

Visual grading
This vinyl is very clean and has been very well maintained down the years. S1 has some faint hairlines, although not very many, and one tiny speck on track 2 but I cannot detect any scratches. S2 is even cleaner with hardly any hairlines and again no scratches. Visually it really is very impressive and you have to look hard for the imperfections. It still has a healthy glossy sheen and whilst you can see it has been played a number of times it has not been played to death judging by the amount of spindle wear.
Play grading
'Black Dog' has some light crackle on the quieter sections and just the one click but still plays with excellent power and no distortion. 'Rock and Roll' is superb from start to finish, and 'rocks out' in immaculate fashion! The depth and strength of the bass is stunning and again there is no distortion. The slow build up on 'The Battle of Evermore' has one swish type sound on the intro followed by light intermittent static on the first half of the track and then plays with excellent quality for the most part. On playback there were three dull pops and a little skip also towards the end which is a shame as the actual sound quality is excellent. The intro on 'Stairway to Heaven' plays in sublime style with no obvious interference at all, it is a superb listen. So often it is this track that has 'background' not the previous one! It continues to play with superb depth and warmth and only a hint of light very light static here and there. As it builds the audio quality does not decrease as it so often does. There is a little distortion on the first heavier guitar section but thereafter the guitar solo and vocal plays extremely well with no real interference. Not one single click or pop across the entire track. The quiet ending plays with barely any 'background' and overall this is a wonderful version of this classic.
'Misty Mountain Hop' on S2 plays with wonderful depth and quality. A little static on the intro but this version displays none of the distortion that you so often find. A superb strong bass and only a little static on the fade out. What follows is a stunning version of 'Four Sticks', rarely have I heard it play with such depth and clarity. The only 'background' really is a little static on the fade out. 'Going to California' plays very clearly with no clicks or pops but there is a little background static here and there but is certainly isn't intrusive. 'When the Levee Breaks' begins so well and is a lot less affected by the distortion issues that you always find on this track. There is a little more on the final quarter but it certainly doesn't 'swallow up' the music and this is definitely one of 'cleaner' versions I have heard on a red/plum pressing.nd half of the track but still plays loud and true and with no other interference and provides a fitting end to a classic album.
The Gatefold
The gatefold is very clean overall with only minor shelf wear. The top edges have only a small amount of rubbing and the bottom edges just a little more. The spine has very little rubbing just some wear on the corners and the right hand ones are relatively clean with only a little corner wear. The opening edge does has a little handling wear only. The front and back covers are very clean with no marking just minor ringwear on the latter. The inside of the gatefold is very clean but it does have some rippling as if it may have been damp at some point. In saying that there are no water stains so it may be just the passing of time that has caused this. It isn't major but worth pointing out. Sadly it doesn't have the original lyric inner and has been replaced with a plain white inner which remains in excellent condition.
Inner sleeve
Whilst the bottom edge is completely open this inner sleeve is very clean and not marked like so many. The two sides also have a small split but all the splits are 'clean' and not that visible. I can't remember when I last saw a fully intact one so this one is more than acceptable.
The labels
The red/plum labels are very clean with no writing but there is some very faint mottling here and there. It is very minor. There is some spindle wear although not a vast amount and not very much at all on the S1 label.
