Description
LENNIE TRISTANO - Lennie Tristano (Atlantic 1224), 1955. MONO
Excellent 'cool jazz' recording from Lennie Tristano featuring some of the very earliest overdubbing and tape manipulation in the history of recording. Solo tracks and Trio tracks plus 5 Quartet tracks featuring Lee Konitz recorded live at the Sing Song Room of the Confucius Restaurant in NYC. The remaining tracks were recorded at Atlantic Studios.
Personnel: Tristano, solo piano on "Requiem" and "Turkish Mambo". Tristano, piano; Peter Ind, bass & Jeff Morton, drums on "Line Up" and "East Thirty Second". Tristano, piano; Lee Konitz, alto sax; Gene Ramey, bass & Art Taylor, drums on "These Foolish Things", "You Go To My Head", "If I Had You", "Ghost Of A Chance" and "All The Things You Are".
Slight label variations exist for this album. This one has the first song of Side A ("Line Up") listed ABOVE the center hole. Other versions of this same black label, first pressing have all song titles below the center hole. Additionally, "Atlantic Recording Corp. New York" at the bottom of the label is printed in slightly smaller, thinner font.
Matrix numbers 11347 and 11348 appear on labels and are etched into dead wax runout. STAMPED into dead wax runout are A AT (Side A) and B AT (Side B).
Record and cover are in excellent, strong VG+ condition. In fact, the record would grade at NM if not for 3 or 4 superficial needle swipes on Side A that are imperceptible to the touch and do NOT affect play. Rear cover has the name "Jim C" written in ballpoint [see photo].
A keeper!

Payment via PayPal only.
All purchases ship within one day of payment. Tracking information will be provided. Records are professionally packaged in industry-standard heavy cardboard record mailers and secured with cardboard fillers and/or bubble wrap. For albums, all non-factory-sealed records are removed from the cover and shipped in the same polyethylene sleeve so as to negate the possibility of seam splits during transport. For box sets, the records will be shipped INSIDE the boxes, as this is the safest way to make sure there is no collapse or damage to the box itself.
And no matter what it may say elsewhere, we do NOT ship to Italy. Sorry. Nothing personal. It's just that your postal system has lost or damaged so many shipments over the years that there is no longer a sense of trust involved in shipping packages to Italy.
All items are VISUALLY GRADED unless otherwise stated. We pride ourselves in ACCURATE and EXTREMELY CONSERVATIVE grading.
