HOMELAND FOLK SONGS Vol 2 by LEE TAI HSAING aka LI TAI XIANG aka LI TAI-HSAING. Original TAWAIN pressing on SHINLEE label (VM-003), from circa 1975. Little known yet desirable release by the cult Taiwanese composer and folk songwriter. This session is the superior Vol 2 of a title that is difficult for us to translate but those in the know will agree that this is the big one ;) Traditional Amis / Mandarin melodies but played in a cinematic '70s lounge funk / exotic disco / EZ listening style. Several trax are killer and sound like a mix of Asian Kung Fu gangster film themes with european Library / soundtrack orchestrations of the period but with an obvious oriental twist. Mood music that should appeal to Japanese rare groove loving collectors of Kiyoshi Yamaya & Contemporary Sound Orchestra et al. Taken in its entirety, this is a beautiful and sophisticated set of filmic and groovy mood music. Our soundclip opens with a boom bap - hip hop cum fender rhodes oriental funk theme into slap bass Blaxploitation tinged funk with drum breaks and other infectious themes with that funky east meets west aesthetic. Great for DJs. Evocative, mystical and lightly experimental with ethnic folk percussion (Chinese bells / bongos etc) / strange brass and woodwind motifs (even a splash of Sorgini-esque Manchester Morgue style oboe on a certain theme) / phased studio FX / flute / disco wah wah / e-piano / jazz pop and bossa influences / gliding strings 'n' things ;) Tons of cool beats / unusual rhythms and spacey atmospheres. Our soundclip finishes with a couple of Eastern takes on the cowboy / spaghetti western sounding genre with country soft rock and bewitching classical motifs that the composer was most famous for. Like we said before, this oddity sounds like an imaginary film score. Seldom comes up for sale this side of the hemisphere. Beautiful sleeve artwork too (especially the watercolour painting scene of the back sleeve). Very rare Lp!!!

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition overall regardless of some hairlines / some long faint scuffs and old pressing marks in places. Surface noises. Some soft pops / ticks (as you can hear on our soundclip). The hard card sleeve is in strong VG+ condition overall regardless of any general wear from storage. Edge and corner wear with some chipping (mostly down the front spine side edge). Spine has wear with some cracking and card deterioration. Some ink fading in places. Mottled dirt spots and natural age discoloration to front and back sleeve. Corner ding to bottom left corner of back sleeve. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare Lp!!!
