HERALD 1012, Lightnin’ and the Blues by Lightnin’ Hopkins. Original deep groove black label with silver print.
Here is a chance to own a bonafide Holy Grail LP at a budget price; an original 1960 pressing of the Mega Rare Lightnin’ and the Blues LP on Herald.
The reason for the budget price is because there are 2 slight skips. Really very listenable beyond these, other surface noise is minimal with some crackle here & there and a few tics & pops. There is some underlying noise which is to be expected from a 50 year old LP on a minor blues label that has been enjoyed.
The unfortunate skip tics on Side One, Song 3 (“Lightnin’s Boogie”) and Side Two, Song 1 (“Blues For My Cookie”) do play through though their presence cannot be denied.
Vinyl is G, there are slight jump tics/minor skips on 2 tracks and a considerable amount of surface marks, small scratches & scuffs. The labels have a number of spindle marks.
Cover is VG-, Although the top and bottom seams have split close to their entire length, they have been taped very nicely. This very clean tape job happened sometime in the 45 years between the pressing and when I acquired it 15 years ago. The spine is similarly repaired, though the split on the spine is just about 4” long. The cover image retains beautiful color though there is some shelf wear visible when shifted in the light. The back has a bit of staining near the top opening edge as well as here & there around the back to a lesser degree. What appears to be the word “yer” is written in blue ink on the bottom spine edge corner. There are a few dings along the opening edge as well as a crinkly bend to the upper opening edge corner.
