LP : L'Inde Fantôme Vol. 1 De La Rue Au Temple – SOUNDTRACK of the Film "L'Inde Fantôme" by Louis Malle

Original French pressing from 1971 on BARCLAY, XBLY 920.180. Beautiful fully laminated cover with liner-notes in French on the back. The music was recorded in 1969 in Calcutta (Side 1) and Bombay (Side 2) as part of the film-music for Louis Malle's 1969 documentary about India. Side 1 has a trio made up of an Indian Bamboo Flute accompanied by Tabla and Indian Zither, the very interesting first track is in a modal vein. On Side 2, the first three tracks have a 17-year young Zakir Hussein playing the Tabla along with his father Ustad Alla Rakha-Khan, accompanying K.Kumar on Sitar. The first track has a real cool sitar-riff, track two has only the 2 tabla-players, track three has a beautiful sitar-melody. The fourth track on side 2 has uncredited Indian musicians playing the Shehnai ( a kind of Indian Oboe ) and the tambour ( Indian drum ), in the liner-notes this track is compared to John Coltrane's playing, it indeed resembles his soprano-sax playing on the track “India” of the 1963 “Impressions”-LP on the IMPULSE! label and there are more parallels to some of his later recordings on soprano-sax. Recommended LP !

Kartick Kumar/sitar - Ustad Alla Rakha-Khan & Zakir Hussain /tabla, performing: “Tabla Solo Et Sitar - Solo De Deux Tablas - Ragha Classique” – II. Uncredited players of Shehnai ( = Indian Oboe ) and Tambour ( = Indian Drum ) performing “Shinai Et Tambour”

Condition: side 1 looks mint-, side 2 looks mint- in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks mint-- to ex++ under a very strong halogen lamp. Both sides play in mint- all of the time.

The cover has a beautiful front & back, there's a very small cut-out punchhole in the lower left corner, both seams are intact, the spine has a split in the middle of ca. 2 inches (covered with a piece of clear cello-tape); due to the split overall vg.

Zustand: Seite 1 sieht mint- aus, Seite 2 sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe mint- aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie mint-- bis ex++ aus ( eine winzige Oberflächemlinie). Beide Seiten spielen durchgehend in mint- .

Vorder- & Rückseite des Covers sind sehr schön erhalten, auf der Vorderseite ist in der uneteren linken Ecke ein winziges cut-out punchhole, obere und untere Kante sind intakt, die seitliche Kante hat in der Mitte einen Split auf einer Länge von ca. 5 cm, mit Tesafilm überklebt; auf Grund des splits insgesamt in vg.

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
