Background
Litterer - a band made up of family members plus one hanger-on (Estlund). From Iowa, these guys are just as notoriously legendary as that other well-known outfit from the region - Lynn Allen. This band have been compared to debut album era Danger Danger, but probably lack the intensity and superlative musicianship that D2 displayed. Vocally though, it's as though we are hearing Ted Poley sing these songs rather than Tom Litterer. A compliment indeed. The band surely look the part, a great image, which would give other hair-metal merchants such as Autograph and Winger a good foot race to the nearest hairdressers!

The Songs
The album entree 'Ghost Town Park' sounds familiar, like a workingman's Danger Danger but the arrangement doesn't quite hit the mark. Both guitarists get to trade licks on the title track 'Rock This City', sounding like a melodic rock equivalent of Virgin Steele, the edgy tune given some assistance by Carleen Litterer's keyboards. The dual axe approach stands out again on 'Lost In Time', the L.A metal styled riff a familiar sound during the era. Litterer meander through the ballad 'Romancing The Night' before blitzing us with 'Rock On Through The Night', a track which can't decide whether to be AOR or metal! Similarly 'Broken Hearts'.. which starts out mid-tempo and gradually works itself up the scale. Finishing off with a flurry is 'City Lights' which ends up in the same territory as Leatherwolf, that is.. guitars flying all over the place, aided by some well placed synth layers.

In Summary
Litterer released a CD in 1995 called 'Romancing The Night'. It included tracks from this album plus an EP called 'She's So Dangerous'. Catamount did the honours for that one too. A good band, good image, and an example of melodic keyboard laced hard rock from the hair-metal era without being on a big label.
