I did not expect for this album to go as hard as it did. I know punk comes from rock n roll but the energy is extremely fast, the roaring vocals, smashing of the piano keys and ever-moving drums. The slower songs are also amazing, Little Richard might be my favorite rock n roller out of all the others during the late 50s and early 60s. I am perplexed by how good this is, I've never seen this album mentioned in best-of-60s lists.

After a brief return to Specialty (which produced a couple of singles but no album), Little Richard moved to Vee-Jay and cut this disc of oldies like "Hound Dog" and "Short Fat Fannie." If you've already heard all the key Richard tracks, there's some interesting secondary material here: a big-band jazz version number with wild falsetto ("Only You"), a slow soulful rendition of "Goodnight Irene" with prominent congas. Despite claims to the contrary, Jimi Hendrix does not appear to have played on this session.

(b)         The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
