12” Album
AC/DC
High Voltage

Australian issue
ALBERT label # APLP-009

CONDITION

VINYL : Terrific / clean labels / shiny throughout / plays perfectly with a crisp and quality sound / no pops, skips or sound blemishes whatsoever / no lead in-out hiss / no marks and a real gem / as good as they come really as it is extremely difficult to find such exceptionally clean vinyl for this for this one / Rated Near Mint easily

SLEEVE : Excellent / no writing or splits and the spine is intact / no creasing to speak of / a touch of faint ring-wear at centre top / a little wear to the corners though only minimal / overall it presents very well and would be amongst the better sleeves I’ve come across for this album for some time

DESCRIPTION

An absolute brilliant pressing of Acca Dacca’s debut album with a young and somewhat raw Angus (doing what he does best…. absolute awesome guitar here) complimented by Bon’s great vocals.

AC/DC was still developing its sound when High Voltage was recorded in November 1974 with Scott and the Young brothers backed here by a different rhythm section than the Mark Evans / Phil Rudd combination which featured on their next three full-length studio recordings.

Released on the Albert label the Australian issue is unique in that the later international album ( 1976 on Atlantic Records) came with a different cover and featured a track-list that was a compilation of this Australian edition and its follow-up, the again Australia-only T.N.T. album.
Despite its title, the 1976 overseas issue of High Voltage features only two tracks from the original in "She's Got Balls" and "Little Lover". Four of the other songs on the original, "Baby, Please Don't Go", "You Ain't Got a Hold on Me", "Soul Stripper", and "Show Business", were included on the '74 Jailbreak EP, released in the United States, Canada, and Japan in October 1984. To date two tracks here, "Stick Around" and "Love Song", have never been released internationally.

A killer of an album that still ranks up there with some of their greatest material and very much a highly prized item by fans world-wide.

MORE NOTES

From their earliest days, lead guitarist Angus Young, a spastic dwarf-like riff-monger who wore nothing but traditional schoolboy attire, led this band of hooligans with gleeful perversity and balls-out ambition. The group's intent is perfectly clear from the disc's opening power chords: to distill rock and mutate the blues down to its barest essentials in a pulverizing whomp. Riding over the top of the battering rhythm section is the all-too-true sneer of vocalist Bon Scott, who brings sexist anthems to a previously unachieved high (or low, depending on your reference point).
HIGH VOLTAGE is not for the faint of heart and gave metal fans a template of the brand of molten lava the band would later weld into perfection. The formula for which the group would eventually become famous--songs based around three crunching power chords and the high-pitched squeal of a man who sounds like he's just been unleashed from the reformatory--is firmly established here.
