Original 1st UK pressing on Green Harvest, no EMI logo. Gatefold. Third solo LP (his best?) by former Soft Machine frontman, features Mike Oldfield, Robert Wyatt and more. [emil] CERTAINLY THE RAREST VARIANT OF THIS ALBUM AND QUITE POSSIBLY THE RAREST HARVEST ALBUM IN THIS FORMAT– THIS IS A 1972 UK ORIGINAL FIRST & COMPLETE HARVEST PRESSING. Kevin Ayers third solo album sold in small quantity in the UK first issue format on first release and the relatively few early originals which have survived the passage of time in a worthwhile condition are rarely seen these days. THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE IS THE RAREST BECAUSE BY MID 1971 ALL UK HARVEST RECORD LABELS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CARRYING THE EMI BOXED LOGO. FOR EXAMPLE THERE ARE NO KNOWN UK VARIANTS OF PINK FLOYD’S ‘MEDDLE’, CATALOGUE NUMBER SHVL 795 RELEASED IN OCTOBER 1971, WHICH DO NOT HAVE THE EMI BOXED LOGO. SO THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY THAT THIS ALBUM, RELEASED ON A LATER CATALOGUE NUMBER SHVL 800 TWO MONTHS LATER, COULD CARRY NON EMI LOGO LABELS (SOME REFERENCE SITES HAVE THE FIRST UK RELEASE DATE FOR THIS ALBUM AS NOVEMBER 1971 BUT MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND THE DATE ON ALL OF THE LABELS FOR THIS ALBUM IMPLIES THE ACTUAL RELEASE DATE WAS JANUARY 1972 – EITHER WAY IT IS WELL AFTER THE NO EMI BOXED LABELS WERE OFFICIALLY DISCONTINUED). HOWEVER, IT SEEMS THAT JUST A FEW SLIPPED THROUGH UNNOTICED ON THE VERY EARLIEST PRINT RUN, BEFORE THE PRINTING PLATE WAS CORRECTED, AND ENDED UP IN CIRCULATION.[emil]
