If you close your eyes while you listen to the self-titled debut from Australia's Lucifer's Fall, you can hear the vestigial reverberations of Saint Vitus holed up in Total Access studios with Joe Carducci. This is ultra-raw, traditional Doom Metal, embracing the no-frills ethos of Saint Vitus and draws it's lyrical material straight from the Judeo-Christian tradition. it's all damnation and a vengeful God all of the time with the notable exception of an odd tale of clinically depressed Wizards ("The Suffering Wizard") and King of Doom (the brilliant "Unknown, Unnamed") enthroned. Look for slow-mo crushers like "Death March" and "A Sinner's Fate" and "Deceiver" mixing it up with songs that incorporate both slow n' go such as the awesome title track, the aforementioned mercilessly catchy "Unknown, Unnamed" ('Unknown, unnamed, to bring the doom he came' has been stuck in my head all day) and the driving instrumental "The Summoning" (with some nice Tom G Warrior-style "UHHHH"s and "OWWWW"s).
