LUNCHBOX - LunchBox LP TEST PRESSING

An incredibly obscure American eighties punk record from people who feature prominently in well-known earlier groups. Lunch Box was start in 1986 by London May, who had previously played in Samhain and Reptile House, and would also drum in an early Dag Nasty lineup, and Tim Swenson (Thelonius Monster). They were soon joined by guitarist Ron Emory (TSOL, D.I’s) in 1987, although I don't believe Emory appears here. This aborted album was to come out on Toronto’s Lone Wolf label, and the catalogue number (LWR004), and paperwork seen elsewhere confirms that this was cut June 22, 1988. According to the label owner, the recording was already mastered before being submitted, then mistakenly remastered by the pressing plant. The band objected and the record left in the limbo; before long, the label had dissolved and the group itself split up in 1990. Musically, this is of its era, but (much) better than I expected, a sort of rootsy yet unmistakably punk style in the vein of mid-period Channel Three, early Replacements or the first couple Lemonheads elpees. Ten cuts, all driving and quite rough with a couple quieter moments offset by some speedy ravers. My friend found it in a Toronto used record shop over thirty years ago and none of our circle has ever seen another.
