Description
For sale is a copy of the quite rare Folkways LP in the Ethnic Folkways Library "Monograph Series," Lappish Joik Songs from Northern Norway. The album was originally released in 1956. It comprises Norwegian folk songs recorded in the field by Wolfgang Laade and Dieter Christensen. It has the catalog number FE 4007.
Condition: The vinyl itself is in EX condition, clean and shiny; looks like it was perhaps played just a few times if at all. Sleeve is EX, some mild shelf wear and perhaps a bit of mild fading on the standard Folkways tip-on sleeve. This copy does come with the original Folkways booklet as well as an original Folkways postcard (which once upon a time you could mail in to get a Folkways catalogue). See photos!
The official Folkways description of this LP reads as follows:
In the Northern tundra region of Norway, Finland, and Sweden live the nomadic reindeer herding Lapps. Other than the human voice the only instrument utilized by the Lapps, on or off this recording, is a tambourine-like drum. Furthermore, the Lapps only know one type of song, the Joik song. This 1956 Folkways release and its accompanying liner notes chronicle the various forms of the Joik song. Though Joik singing is primarily comprised of nonsense words set to fixed melodies, short descriptive sentences and names are occasionally interspersed. To this day, Joik singing remains prevalent throughout Lappish culture.

This item comes from a non-smoking home. I'm not a store; I just sell a few LPs a year to keep my shelves open for new stuff. :)
