What sets it apart is that quietly, in the course of the singing of the monks, the voice of Thomas Merton translates the Latin into English and it works very well. If you have a deep interest in the life and writing of Merton as I do, then this LP gives the atmosphere of Gethsemaini's monastic music.
5.0 out of 5 stars Thomas Merton narration of Gregorian Chant I recently received this lp recording via Amazon.com. I am simply thrilled with the record ! It has to be pre-Vatican II (before 1962) yet the record is flawless and like new. I once had a cassette recording of this lp which I gave away years ago to a friend. I found that I so missed having access to it that I have been searching for some time now for a recording of LAUDETTE DOMINUM. It is probably the last good recording of this chant which exists.

I received this record a few months ago but just hadn't the time to tell you how great it is. The music and voices are as clear (no scratchy sound, in other words), as today's music CDs or streaming.
