Description
An original 1st press of Zep II on the UK red & plum Atantic label. Matrix A2/B2. Please note that 1st pressing on Zep II is easily identifiable by the existence of the track 'Lemon Song' on the labels. This was changed to 'Killing Floor' a few months after 1st release. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original light-brown E J Day cover. Bear in mind that as you get toward '71 the Zep II covers go gradually darker and darker until they're almost black. It's the light-brown copies that are the early ones and would have existed at 1st issue. Also included is the plastic bag warning inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen reasonably light use. Under close inspection I could make out a few light marks per side, one slightly longish one over Heartbreaker - but nothing serious that would feature audibly. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with two slight deviations. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. A super player and one that does real justice to this early Zep classic. It's certainly exhibiting that detailed and yet powerful sound that the red & plum copies have a reputation for. Interference is both minor and infrequent. All I could detect was a touch of brief static in a couple of spots. There's one deviation in the opening seconds of "Whole Lotta Love". There's a few crackles as it starts up, but it soon dissipates and cleans up. I also detected a couple of ticks in 'WHAT IS & WHAT SHOULD..". Overall a very impressive rendition with not all that much to find fault with.
Cover (Vg+) Always a difficult task finding these early copies in tip top condition, but this example acquits itself well. A very nice clean front without major marking or creasing. There's just a touch of ageing running along that spine edge. The rear looks nice with just a bit of creasing - in fact better than many examples. There's wear, but nothing excessive. The interior is absolutely fine - no issues at all. There's a bit of edge wear, but nothing that noticeable. There's a bit more on the spine so don't expect to make out much of the text. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing and some numbers written on the front side. No splits though.
