Description

An original 1st issue of Zep III on the UK Atlantic Red & Plum label. Matrix A5/B5 - very 1st cut. Please note this LP is 1st issue - i.e. it was available whilst the album originally charted. There is, of course, an earlier label variation which would have been available on the 1st day of release. The heavy-set vinyl [decent weight...not all Zep III Red & Plum were pressed this heavy] comes housed in an original 1st issue deluxe gatefold with spinning wheel printed by E J Day. Please note the spinning wheel is intact and fully functional/operational. Also included is an original plastic bag warning inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex+) Wow - it's not often that these original early copies surface looking and sounding quite this crisp. Clearly this LP has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks either side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Quite frankly this is within the top two renditions I've ever witnessed on Zep III. It is nothing short of stunning. Beautifully crisp audio - tremendous depth and clarity. Intros and inbetweens are wonderfully clean, in fact, interference is close on non-existent. All I could detect were a few crackles in a couple of isolated spots [ one crackle in Gallows Pole...A couple in the intro to Tangerine]. But very little else note worthy at all. Even 'Since I've Been Loving You' plays nice and clean - and this is by far the fussiest track on the album. A barnstorming rendition and one it would be difficult to part with....
Cover (Ex) A work of art... the Zep III cover has to be one of the most iconic designs of the seventies. But they often have issues with the spinning wheel, sometimes exhibit a lot of ageing, and many copies suffered laminate creasing on the rear from day one. But this example really is a cut above the rest...Lovely clean front and rear with only the faintest hint of ageing. The spinning wheel is fully functional. The rear exhibits only a couple of laminate crease lines down toward the bottom edge - now that is way better than you usually find. The interior is immaculate - difficult to find fault. Edge wear is very light for this title. All the text on the spine is legible, but has a taken a very slight bump to the top-end [I'm being picky here!]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity thanks to that original high quality deluxe design.
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. No splits or markings.
