Purple & Tan Labels with Black Fan Logo

Vinyl is in GOOD++ condition, with many light sleeve scuffs and needle marks. However, Side 1 plays with only very light crackling and a few light pops at beginning and end of side; Side 2 plays with a bit more crackling and popping and could skip near the end of track B4. However, both sides played through well on my fairly sensitive table and not enough noise in either case to detract much from the overall sound. Visually, it has definitely been played a lot, but most damage is from sleeve scuffing and seems to just add character to this awesome pressing. Good playable copy until you find the impossible clean copy that doesn’t require a second mortgage on your house.
Cover with orange logo is in VERY GOOD- condition, with four small stains on cover (under zeppelin) and rubbing/chipping on edges. Chipping on title edge and left side of top and bottom edges, repaired with clear tape.
Clear MFSL anti-static record sleeve.

How close is one’s pressing to the mastertape? In the case of Led Zeppelin, we’re all aware that they signed their recording contract with Atlantic Records in the USA, not in the UK. Their mastertapes have always laid in the Atlantic Records New York vaults. Recent audiophile reissues from Classic Records have used the mastertapes from the USA. Lastly, examining the ‘original’ UK Led Zeppelin labels from I to V, in the centre above the white band is stated: Under licence from Atlantic Recording Corps, USA. So it would seem the Led Zeppelin USA pressings are in fact closer to the ‘original’ mastertapes than their UK counterparts. Specifically, Led Zeppelin I, SD 8216 with the purple/ochre, Atlantic (USA) label with black ‘fan’ logo, is the earliest pressing (particularly since it was withdrawn for the characteristic editing mistake) than even its subsequent green/red-labeled Atlantic Records USA pressings and the UK pressings.

Is this the best pressing? I haven’t heard many versions, so I don’t know. However, it does have a distinctly different sound (more acoustic / live?) from later US 1st pressings I have heard (Green/Red label). I do know that I’ve been a Zep vinyl fan for 40+ years and this is the first time I have come across this record with this label.
