He began his career at the age of 14 singing in the freshman program of the National Radio and Radio Southern Cross At the time, was the winner of several of these contests. Was crooner Orchestra All Stars National Radio. In 1942 he made his first recording as a vocalist for all Chiquinho and His Rhythm, performing the samba "confess" by Augusto Mesquita, and the fox "Maria Elena" by Russell and Barcelata with version Jair Amorim. In 1946, he signed his first contract with Radio Center Drive for six-month season. In 1949, won the contest "Chiquinho looking for a crooner Lady", promoted by the Radio Club of Brazil. In 1950, he returned to Center Drive where she performed with singer Dick Farney in a program dedicated to jazz. He sang in several languages, mainly English interpreting the jazz repertoire with American power, according to critics of the time. With this repertoire of songs like "Always" by Irving Berlin; "Tonight" from Leonard Bernstein and Sondheim, and "Someone to watch over me," George and Ira Gershwin had several programs on Radio National in the 1950s. He participated in several of the most reputable music programs of Radio Nacional of Rio de Janeiro, among them: famous Operettas; A million melodies; Festivals GE, Song of Remembrance, when the conductors are Masters and music.
She recorded her first album in 1952, for Sinter, playing two songs from Lily Panicali and Evaldo Rui: the waltz "A Sunday in the Garden of Allah" and the beguine "While there". In 1958, he recorded two versions made by Aloysio de Oliveira, the Odeon, "Sayonara" and "Love me again". Jobim met through her husband, the conductor Leo Peracchi, who orchestrated "Orfeu da Conceição" in 1957.
In 1959, Tom Jobim invited to record the LP "For all my life," only with his songs and Vinicius de Moraes. The album received orchestration Leo Peracchi. In the same year, he recorded the bolero "Love is you," de Almeida Rego and Evaldo Gouveia, and the rock ballad "As before, for Panzeri, Di Paola and Taccani with Nagib version of Julius. In 1960, the label released the LP Party "Modinhas out of fashion" with the orchestra of Leo Peracchi, where he recorded several folk songs of Brazil. The disc, released by party label, received critical acclaim, the maestro Heitor Villa-Lobos and presentation of the conductor Edino Krieger. In this disk are present, among others, the ditties "If my sighs could," the popular motif with arrangements by Batista Siqueira, "I will love you to death," Mario de Andrade, "Lundu the Marquesa de Santos" Villa Lobos and Viriato Correia, "It was a sultry night," Luciano Gallet, "Modinha" by Jaime Ovalle, Manuel Bandeira, and "Cantigas", by Alberto Nepomuceno and White Colaço.
In 1964, he left the National Radio and went to New York where he played alongside Laurindo de Almeida. In the U.S. the LP "Lenita Bruno in Hollywood, where he played only Brazilian music, some with English version, accompanied by Laurindo Almeida, Clare Fischer and Bud Shank. He also made a special on TV next to Jose Feliciano. He recorded, then another LP, along with Bud Shank, entitled "Work of love. On returning to Brazil, participated in a show at Sala Funarte in honor of Mario de Andrade. Performed the show "Tom Jobim, popular or classical?" in 1985, the Project Six and a Half of A. B. I. In Rio de Janeiro. He made his last appearance in 1986, the Botanic Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, the show "To love and suffer."
