Tremendous copy of a very scarce one on the fiercely collected Blue Horizon label. I’ve got a few Blue Horizon things available at the moment, all from the same source and all in incredible condition, you just don’t see these around these days not even battered copies but copies like this are gold dust and if you have any interest at all you shouldn’t miss them.
Very excellent electric blues from Loiusianna recorded for the Excello label between 1954 and 1967. A lot of the tracks have an uptempo almost RnBish feel which (to me at least) makes for a much more listenable album than straight blues recordings. As usual with Blue Horizonn albums there’s loads of sleeve notes telling Slim’s life story and as usual with old blues artists he led an interesting life!
Condition:
Sleeve: Very very strong. As with most of the Post War Masters series it’s a single sleeve made of thin unlaminated card of the type which shows wear easily.
The front is extremely clean with virtually no flaws at all, there’s no writing, no sticker tears. Couple of very small light creases coming in from the spine but that’s about it, it’s just in very very nice condition.
The rear sleeve is equally strong,, there’s no writing, no tears, no stickers etc. Again a couple of light creases coming in from the spine but these are really nothing to worry about.
Both top and bottom seams are both just starting to show some very minor light wear, put it in a PVC sleeve (which I’ll supply and this won’t get any worse).
The spine is wide, square and clean with all of the writing clearly readable.
Both labels are perfect, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers and no visible spindle wear.
Record: Just perfect. A better example would be virtually impossible unless you have the fortune to stumble across an unplayed copy. I’d be surprised if this has been played half a dozen times in it’s lifetime and it’s certainly been well handled every time it’s been out of the sleeve because there are no surface marks at all, not even any of those light hairlines which are caused by taking it in and out of the sleeve. It’s very clean and has a lovely dark sheen. Playing it and again it’s just perfect, no surface noise at all to spoil your enjoyment, even at high volume there aren‘t even any minor crackles between tracks, the sound is clean and sharp with no distortion of any kind. I rarely grade anything as mint and certainly not when they’re as old as this but this is really as close as you can get to a truly Mint 36 year old record. If you let this one go when do you think you’ll see another in this sort of shape?
