Description

An original 1st issue of Transformer on the UK RCA label. Matrix 1E/2E. Note how the vinyl is very heavy pressed and still mentions 'Stereo' at 12 o'clock - this is absolutely NOT a later re-press. this 1st issue would have been available in the first couple of months whilst the album still charted. Later copies [1 year+] drop the 'Stereo' text and are pressed on flimsier vinyl, or have raised areas on the label. The original copies should show a flat label and 'Stereo' mentioned at 12 o'clock. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed, unusually, in a fully laminated Clout & Baker cover. One thing the lamination does help to do is protect the front and back from the dreaded surface wear that usually affects this title in a big way. Also included is the original RCA inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In super condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could make out a couple of light marks per side, and one minuscule 1mm mark in track 2 - it does sound see details below. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one deviation. An absolute belter of a copy and will knock other copies out of the court for audio - it's early and heavily pressed. A classic album which requires a top tier copy to deliver it in full-effect. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. In the slow numbers a quiet background and in the rockers - ENERGY! Listen to 'Perfect Day' - in all its glory. Interference is largely absent. Expecta  couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. The one deviation is in 'Andy's Chest'. In the low-key spoken word intro there's a tiny mark mentioned above which causes 4-5 ticks [no big deal]. Given that the rest of the LP plays to such a fine standard - don't let that momentary lapse put you off. Quite possibly the best overall rendition of Transformer I've witnessed.
Cover (Vg+) Haven't seen this laminated version before, but it sure helps protecting that iconic image. Most examples, even decent looking copies, will always exhibit some wear back and front across those images. But the lamination has maintained the images and they have a nice deep gloss with great colours. Front and back look very nice and clean with perhaps just a couple of minor thumbnails evident. Note there's laminate lift along the left side - this will be almost obligatory on these copies. There's a touch of damage on the spine. The text on the spine is mostly still all legible, but there's a knock around the word 'Transformer' which has damaged it a touch. I've taped over it just to secure and tighten it up. It's fine now - just cosmetic really. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine and unusual specimen.
