PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! The very first album by Joni Mitchell when she was virtually an unknown hippie artist who is accompanied by Stephen Stills on guitar with David Crosby producing ... you won't easily find a better copy - this one is a TOP copy....
David Crosby-produced album is a sparse and beautiful folk record. This was Joni Mitchell's very first album, yet already it was apparent that here was an immense lyrical talent. "Song To a Seagul" is something of a curiosity, her early folksy style is already in full flowering but unlike the 2 albums that would truly cement Ms Mitchell's status as the queen of the hip Laurel Canyon scene, the album is a strange, dark, occasionally earthy album, thankfully missing much of the tweeness that would hamper her work pre "Blue". One might be tempted to put this down to the sparse, empty, distant production by David Crosby and it is Mitchell's, often harsh, songs that give the album it's depth.This raw quality is brought to the fore on the album's most impressive tracks, the sad and mournful opener "I Had A King", the dark and brooding "Nathan La Franeer", the joyful "Night In The City", the lonely, aching pull of "Marcie" and the harsh realities of the wonderful "The Dawntreader", these tracks capture the painful honesty that would find it's true spiritual home on Mitchell's most celebrated work "Blue" albeit here on her debut in more abstract forms. The title track is soaked in hippie imagery, whilst "Sistowbell Lane" features a marvellous opening, and the lyrical style that Mitchell mines on "The Pirate Of Penance"is one of the more successful tracks on side two.
Overall Mitchell's debut is an interesting work of an artist full of confidence and one of her best thanks in large parts to the earthy realistic lyrical approach, it's no masterpiece but well worth owning -- worthy of repeated listenings filled with Joni's hippie ideology that was so relevant at the time.
