MAGNIFICENT:
VIVALDI LUTE CONCERTOS & TRIOS -
Hungaroton SLPX-11978 -
Recommended by TAS
One of the finest imports you'll find, LUTE CONCERTOS & TRIOS features fine playing from virtuoso Daniel Benko on lute, Rolla on violin, Barsony on viola, Maria Frank on cello, and Pertis on harpsichord.
An MHV recording of the highest caliber, it is incredibly natural sounding and recognized as such on the TAS list amid best recordings of all time.
Laminated cover of SLPX-11978 is smart, handsome, and without major fault. Heavy-platter record inside -- the original -- will play near mint. Nary a mark. Very pretty in its shine.
Now for a musical note, for those who might be interested:
Benko, the lute player here, from what I understand, practices by playing the extremely difficult transcriptions wrought by the finest lute player who ever lived, Balint Bakfark (1507 to 1576). Thing about composer Bakfark is, he went way past the tuneful Renaissance dances of his day and instead transcribed 5- and 6-part motets for his instrument. To this day, sad part is, there are few who have ever heard this work, and for good reason: Nobody can play them.
No one but Benko, in fact, the lute player on this LP.
Beautiful Vivaldi music and playing…great copy, too: Cover is like new; record looks unplayed, mint.
Simply extraordinary.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $4 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
