When it comes to sexually-charged, organic-soul-music there is no one like Al Green. His songs such as “Tired of Being Alone,” “Call Me,” and “Let’s Stay Together” are so iconic that it’s difficult to compare them to anything else. Al Green’s charisma and command of the stage eventually led him down a path to preaching and earned him the name ‘The Reverend Al Green’. 

Al Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, where he was referred to as “one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music.” His career began when he was introduced to Hi Records vice president, Willie Mitchell, who helped Al Green find his voice. That trademarked ‘cry’ of his helped create several smash albums including Al Green Gets Next to You, Let’s Stay Together, and I’m Still In Love with You. 

Fat Possum Records is the highly regarded, Mississippi-based record label that got its start in the early 1990s. They began by specializing in recording undiscovered blues artists from the area. One of these releases, All Night Long, by Junior Kimbrough received praise from Iggy Pop and a positive review in Rolling Stone Magazine. They soon began releasing records from many classic artists such as R.L. Burnside, Townes Van Zandt, and the legendary Al Green.
