PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. EXTREMELY RARE .... ORIGINAL 40+ YEARS AGO TWO-LP SET PRESSED ON MULTI-COLORED SPLATTER WAX ...
During the summer of 1964 North America was in the middle of full-blown Beatlemania, and Vancouver was no exception when the Fab Four came to town.
The west coast city was chosen as the location for the Beatles first Canadian concert, to be held at the PNE's open-air Empire Stadium on August 22, 1964.
Local radio legend Red Robinson was Master of Ceremonies for the event. He was the program director for C-FUN 1410 at the time.
"The show was supposed to start at 8 p.m., but it started at 9:23 p.m., because the pilot of the plane [carrying the Beatles] forgot to sign a certain document. They had to pile all the Beatles into a car, and drive them out to the airport again," Robinson recently told the CBC.
Once the Fab Four finished with the paperwork, they headed to the stadium, where over 20,000 fans were getting a little crazy with anticipation, Robinson recalled.
"I get up there, and I say: 'Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the PNE, and C-FUN presents: the Beatles!'"
"The guys come rushing out on the stage, and go right into their set."
A riotous show
The band opened with Twist and Shout, and the crowd did, creating concerns that a riot would occur.
Halfway through the show, Robinson was told to get back out on the stage and tell the rowdy concert-goers that they would have to calm down, or the Beatles would have to leave.
"I walked out on the stage at the end of a number, and said: 'We've got to back some people up, there's been two kids crushed already, they'll have to cancel the show.'"
"John Lennon said, 'Get the F... off our stage, nobody interrupts the Beatles!' And I said, 'John, Brian Epstein [the Beatles' manager at the time] sent me up here. And he looked down, and Brian's giving him the 'Hi' sign, meaning let him do it, and he goes 'Okay, carry on mate'."
The show began at 8.15pm and The Beatles took to the stage at 9.25pm. The support acts were, in order of appearance, The Bill Black Combo, the Exciters, The Righteous Brothers and Jackie DeShannon.
The Beatles performed an 11-song set: Twist And Shout, You Can't Do That, All My Loving, She Loves You, Things We Said Today, Roll Over Beethoven, Can't Buy Me Love, If I Fell, Boys, A Hard Day's Night and Long Tall Sally.
The group's performance was broadcast live by local radio station CKNW. After their performance they ran from the stage to their waiting limousine and were driven from the stadium, accompanied by motorcycle outriders, less than a minute after they stopped playing.
The Beatles were taken straight to Vancouver International Airport, from where they flew straight to Los Angeles.
