Deram SML 707 - 1967 - UK

On sale an original UK TEST PRESSING copy of the 1967 LP by The Moody Blues issued by Deram.
Most record collectors are totally unaware of the existence of a very first issue, having some differences from the common release.
The cover of this album, printed by Clout & Baker Ltd. as later pressings, originally had the names of the Moody Blues and the London Festival Orchestra printed in black type in the same size, just below the album title. Soon after a few weeks, as the group was becoming very popular in the UK, the cover design was changed and their name was printed in larger type in turquoise colour, and this is the cover we're all familiar with.
Along with this, there are other layout differences which can be spotted at a close inspection (this issue has 7 song titles on the cover, later issue had eight titles, although the tracks are the same!).
Please compare the pictures below with your copy, so you'll spot the differences!

Moreover, this copy on sale is a TEST PRESSING, and originals are very hard to find. This has the characteristic pink/blue label that Decca used on proof vinyls, with the titles written in pen on both labels. The original inner sleeve and the labels also have a big stamp saying "Passed OK", the confirmation that the test pressing had been approved for the definitive issue.

COVER - The original single front-laminated cover is in VG+ condition with light age wear, some creases along the spine, a small number written in pen on the back and a record shop stamp in the bottom left corner of the back cover.
Seams are solid, the titles on the left seam are perfectly readable.

INNER - Standard plastic-lined Decca white paper inner with blue writings. On both sides it has a large red stamp with "Passed OK" text and the matrix numbers written in blue pen.

VINYL - Only some scuffs and hairlines, plays with light surface noise in the quietest parts with no loud clicks, skips or sticks. My grading is VG+.
Records playgraded using a Shure V15-Type III stylus at 1.5gr.

LABELS - Original Decca test pressing pink/blue labels with titles written in pen and PASSED OK stamp; in perfect condition with no tears.

MATRIX NUMBERS - Machine stamped on the vinyl, ZAL-8078-2W (side 1) and ZAL-8079-2W (side 2).

In vendita una copia originale TEST PRESSING inglese del celebre album dei Moody Blues pubblicato dalla Deram nel 1967.

Pochi collezionisti sono a conoscenza del fatto che questo disco venne realizzato inizialmente con una copertina leggermente diversa e subito sostituita con quella che tutti conoscono.
La copertina originale, stampata da Clout & Baker Ltd, contiene i nomi dei Moody Blues e della London Festival Orchestra scritti in nero con lo stesso carattere al di sotto del titolo del disco. Dopo poche settimane dall'uscita, approfittando del successo del gruppo, la Deram ristampò la copertina evidenziando il nome dei Moody Blues in colore azzurro e in carattere più grande.
Ma non è l'unica differenza: la prima copertina contiene alcune differenze di impaginazione, ad esempio nel numero dei brani che sono 7, mentre nella seconda edizione ne vennero indicati otto!

Inoltre va sottolineato che la copia in vendita è un test pressing, e ne esistono pochissimi per questi dischi. L'etichetta è quella che la Decca usava sempre per queste stampe di prova, di colore rosa/azzurro, con il nome del disco scritto a penna sui due lati. La busta interna e le etichette contengono anche un grosso timbro "Passed OK" che indicava che il test pressing era stato approvato per la stampa definitiva.

COPERTINA - La copertina singola laminata sul davanti è in condizioni VG+ per leggera usura generale, qualche piega lungo il lato sinistro, un numero scritto a penna sul retro e il timbro di un negozio di dischi nell'angolo inferiore sinistro del retro copertina.
I lati sono integri, i titoli sulla costa sono perfettamente leggibili.

BUSTA INTERNA - Busta interna standard Decca in carta bianca con scritte blu con plastica protettiva interna. Contiene sui due lati il timbro originale di approvazione, di colore rosso, e il numero della matrice scritto a penna.

VINILE - Solo qualche segno superficiale, suona con leggero rumore di fondo nelle parti a basso volume, ma senza clic forti o salti. La mia valutazione è VG+.
Dischi suonati con una testina Shure V15-Type III del peso di 1.5 gr.

ETICHETTE - Originali Decca per test pressing di colore rosa/azzurro con scritte a penna e timbro PASSED OK; in perfette condizioni senza strappi.

NUMERI DI MATRICE - Stampati a macchina sul vinile, ZAL-9702P-4W (lato 1) e ZAL-9703P-2W (lato 2).
