Acetate & Three White Labels

This collection consisting of an acetate and three white labels (pressed at different pressing plants), previously belonged to member of Midnight Flyers - a project that largely showcased Maggie Bell's immense vocal skills. At the point that these disks were produced, the band had no name, hence the referencing to only Maggie Bell on the sleeves and labels. Track listings are the same for each record. The four records come in three white card sleeves (the two Strawberry pressings are in one sleeve). Each record has been cleaned and play checked.

Acetate: VG+

This has the usual light surface hiss associated with an acetate but playback is decent and isn't showing any evidence of frequent play. There is a click at the beginning of track two on side one. Side two has three clicks during the fade out of track two and clicks at the beginning of track three. The playing surface is bright and shiny with a light scuff across track one on side one. This has a nice 'Strawberry' pressing plant label which identifies the recordings as 'Cut 2'

White Label (plain label) : Excellent

This record has no writing on the label and comes with the acetate in the same outer sleeve - both being produced by the Strawberry pressing plant (UK). The playing surface has nothing more than minor light marks - nothing obvious, and audio is excellent with just random tics here and there. 

White Label (printed label - no writing) : Excellent

Matrix: (a) ST-SS-804639-A  STERLING

             (b) ST-SS-804640-A  STERLING 

This white label has been pressed by Specialty Records Corporation and has no writing on the printed label. Playback is borderline Near Mint. There is hardly and surface noise and and just a couple of barely noticeable tics. The playing surface has no marks or scratches, and no label spindle trails. I doubt it has been played more than a couple of times.

White Label (printed label - with writing) : Excellent

Matrix: (a) ST-PR-366-A  1-1  STERLING  SRC

             (b) ST-PR-366-B  1-1  STERLING  SRC 

This white label has been pressed by Specialty Records Corporation and has written i.d. on the label. Playback is great, with just a little occasional minor surface noise. The record has no obvious marks or scratches and shows little evidence of play.

A few words on Vinyl Grades.........

My vinyl grades are pretty much in line with those commonly used here on eBay and other specialist vinyl sites. The descriptions provided are of equal significance as they'll include the type of information that I would personally want to know if I was buying a record. I usually examine a record’s playing surface in more than one daylight condition, because the lighting at different times of day tend to reveal details that aren't obvious at other times of day. For example, bright angled morning light will reveal a multitude of fine lines and dust - but these are often superficial, and they can distract from significant surface imperfections. Sleeve grades shouldn't really require too much of an explanation, the photos and brief description should be sufficient.

Mint (M) : Never played, and the only way you can be fairly confident that it hasn’t been played, is if the record is still sealed (and that’s not foolproof).

Near Mint (NM) : A record that shows hardly any evidence of being played – both in appearance and sound quality.

Excellent (EX) : A record that may have minor surface marks and/or minimal surface noise or tics.

Very Good + (VG+) : The record will be close to excellent but may have some noticeable marks or hairlines (occasionally feelable). Sound quality may be slightly impaired with light surface noise/crackle or tics.

Very Good (VG) : The record will have several marks or scratches, and/or sound quality that isn’t that great

Good+ (G+) : This will be a record that has many surface marks or scratches and poor sound quality. I wouldn’t normally sell anything that would grade below this (ie ‘good’ or ‘acceptable’). Anything below this grade would probably have skips and I rarely sell records that have skips.
