Mark Knopfler Sailing To Philadelphia (Ultra Clear Vinyl)
Description DetailsMark Knopfler's solo album catalog contains nothing but exquisitely crafted songs that uniquely blend the roots music of British and American cultures. However, most Knopfler fans will agree that the former Dire Straits frontman reaped a particularly bountiful harvest when he returned on June 26th. September 2000 released his second LP under his own name, Sailing To Philadelphia.
Since then, Mark's productivity has moved in the opposite direction than that of most long-time artists. Over the next 15 years he recorded six more solo records, in addition to numerous other productions, guest appearances and his increasingly extensive tours.
But in 2000, Sailing To Philadelphia was released, four years after Knopfler's official solo debut (not counting film soundtracks) Golden Heart.
The album was a Top 5 hit across Europe, reaching number 1 in Germany and Italy, among others, and was certified gold in the UK, USA, Australia and beyond, and platinum in several other countries. Among the album's other dozen songs was a guest appearance by another famous artist Mark greatly admired, Van Morrison, on "The Last Laugh."
To mark the 25th anniversary of Sailing To Philadelphia, the second solo studio album from British singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler, the album is being released for the first time as a limited edition Crystal Clear 2LP.
That on the 25th Released September 2000, the album is a fan favorite among Mark's solo albums and features the lead single "What It Is" as well as tracks "Sailing To Philadelphia" and "The Last Laugh," which featured James Taylor, Van Morrison, Chris Difford and Squeeze's Glenn Tilbrook.
“Sailing to Philadelphia” was recorded in Nashville and produced by Knopfler and Chuck Ainlay. It reached number one on the album charts in Germany and was certified double platinum in Europe.
